Description
Weaving a high energy, live rock performance with lessons in finance, the band Gooding will perform and teach on April 20, 2017 at 12:15 p.m. at the Swartz Creek Performing Arts Center, to share with students how financial literacy and confidence can enable them to make their dreams come true. Collaborating with the Genesee Intermediate School District, the Michigan Council on Economic Education – a nonprofit organization with centers throughout Michigan secured sponsors for the tour and coordinated the event that will involve almost 400 secondary students. Through a concert, a multimedia presentation and talkback, the show covers the importance of developing good saving habits early, wise use of debt, dangers of too much debt, how credit scores work, and how to control spending through tracking, budgeting and goal setting. The band’s music has been featured in “CSI,” “Criminal Minds,” “The Daily Show,” “Iron Man 2,” “Walk the Line” and other movies. Inspired by their work with Quincy Jones as part of Operation HOPE, they helped create Funding the Future, a nonprofit organization that teaches children the importance of financial literacy.
